This series shows an atmospheric vision of Manhattan’s upper east side and Central Park. Shot from November 2014 through May of 2015, they offer not only a taste of the changing environment of that neighborhood throughout the seasons, but a sometimes quirky view of the people who live and work there, at the extremes of old and young, sandwiched between the East River and the park.

Ever-present in this area is the peculiar light, bounced off the windows of high-rises to illuminate the otherwise darkened canyons of townhouses and apartments, accentuated in the black and white of the photographs. It is a place where light and shade mingle together as unexpectedly as its people.

These photographs were shot under commission from Studio V and Thor Equities. Eighteen pieces from this series hang in their property on East 71st Street.
