One might describe “exuberance” as an ideal emotional outcome of a party or a night out on the town, and these photographs are a sometimes-humorous documentation of that; the moments as guests and party goers experience and pursue (often unsuccessfully) the fleeting euphoria found by forgetting themselves through dance, drinking, drugs or simply enjoying the company of their friends.

This series was shot entirely with a small, hand-held flash (typically the $17 model) and represents many nights out at Manhattan bars, Brooklyn parties, as well as a few weddings, birthday parties, and art openings across the country. Presented in black and white and with a uniform lighting style, the individuality of the events is erased and leaves the series with the appearance of being a single, wild night out.
