Charles Lavoie is freelance photographer, artist and photography instructor living in New York City. Lavoie briefly worked as a newspaper photographer in the Detroit area after receiving his BFA in photography from the College For Creative Studies in 2004. By 2005, he was a freelance event and product photographer living and working in New York City. In 2006 he began teaching photography to adults at Photomanhattan. Teaching quickly became Lavoie’s passion, as he taught both classes and private lessons covering every aspect of photography from basic exposure through photo history, darkroom, photoshop and studio lighting. After leaving Photomanhattan in 2010, he became the initial and primary photography teacher for Brooklyn’s adult art school, BkC, where he helped establish the fledgling school and build its excellent reputation. Lavoie has taught photography to roughly 2000 people, students as diverse as young teenagers, the elderly, celebrities, bartenders, teachers, mothers and financiers. In 2013, Lavoie left his position at BkC to become a father and to concentrate on his own photography.
